Luigi Mounted

Luigi Francesco Fantin had a lucky war as an aide de camp to an officer in a cavalry regiment. Here he is showing off astride a dappled cavalry mount, the Great War equivalent of a sports car, and about as useful on the industrial battlefields of the day, ruled by artillery and the machine gun. Horses were, of course, important in the Great War, remaining much of the motive force in transport behind the lines.
