The Rossi Monument, Schio

The civic monument at the gates of Schio to Senator Alessandro Rossi, capitalist, strikebreaker & imperialist, architect of the late 19th century industrialisation of the local textile industry. Rossi converted the city of his birth, which had been settled since neolithic times and had a secular history of artiginal woolen manufacture, into a virtual company town, sacking and blacklisting unionists in his factories. Those who left his employ were often obliged to leave the district.
